Purasana Psyllium Raw Powder is 100% organic psyllium husk, ground to a fine powder – nothing added. 200 g is about 40 teaspoons, roughly €0.23 a serving. Certified organic and vegan, kosher, and every batch is tested for heavy metals, pesticides and micro-organisms. The resealable pouch is made from a single recyclable material.

What psyllium is

Psyllium is the husk of the seed of Plantago ovata. It is almost entirely dietary fibre (91 g per 100 g) and can hold many times its own weight in water, so a teaspoon in a glass turns into a soft gel within a minute. On its own it has almost no taste.

How to use it

Mix 5 g (about one teaspoon) into 200 ml of water or juice and drink it straight away, before it thickens, up to twice a day, preferably before meals. Always take psyllium with plenty of liquid and follow it with another glass of water. If you are not used to fibre, start with half a teaspoon and build up. It also works as a binder in gluten-free bread and as a thickener in soups and sauces. Not suitable for children under 6. If you take prescription medication, ask your pharmacist about timing, because psyllium can slow the absorption of some medicines.
